POST SHOOT INTERVIEW WITH PHOTOGRAPHER BROOKE MITCHELL-OLIMPIERI
Damaged / Goods :What led you to originally pursue a career in photography & the visual arts ?
Brooke: I have always been in love with photos. I used to always carry a disposable camera with me wherever I went, those things take the best photos. I began shooting professionally after I realized how much I enjoyed it, it began by me just experimenting with friends creatively. That quickly turned into brands asking me to create content for them. I love what I do, id never want to do anything else. Some photographers aspire to be directors or do more films.. But I don't want that, I love the power of an image. Thats what turns me on.
Damaged: Who would you say is your ultimate inspiration ?
Brooke: Ultimate inspiration.. hmm thats tough. There are a few things that come to mind.. People wise, my husband, he is such a huge supporter to me and has always told me to pursue my dreams and to be creative. He gives me that freedom by paying the bills when my creativity doesn't.
My current inspiration has recently shifted to a passion project I am just beginning with my friend Natalie who owns Top Knot goods its called @youfilthydog. We are both huge animal lovers, and we have put our money where our mouth is, and recently we released a tee that we are selling. All of the profits of the tee are being donated to animal rescue organizations that specialize in abused neglected, and homeless pets. This is something I have always wanted to do, help animals. I am so happy and thankful that my work has given me a platform to share and hopefully influence others to give back and to be kind, and to care about something other than themselves or superficial things. Life is about love and kindness. Buy the tee @topknotgoods
Damaged: How would you describe your personal aesthetic ?
Brooke: Personal aesthetic for me is different then in my work. Personally, I am pretty plain and simple. I love a good denim jumpsuit or coveralls with a rock tee. I love black skinny jeans and ankle boots. I like to channel casual Kate Moss when I'm dressing myself. Who doesn't love that easygoing chic style.
In my work I'm totally the opposite. Im all about bright, and tight, and lots of layers of flavor. I love vintage anything, and as many panties from the 90's that I can get my hands on. Panties galore.
Damaged: Is there a message you are trying to convey through your visuals ?
Brooke: For sure, its all about girls having fun, and being girls. Confident, cool, don't want no scrubs. I like to think of my girls as strong independent women.
Damaged: In terms of music, who are your top artists of the moment ?
Brooke: Forever and always obsessed with Peaches, Yeah Yeah Yeah's, Wolfmother, Silvers Pickups, and all time fave.. For sure System of a Down..
Whats your damage ?
Brooke: Ahhhh, the million dollar question.. Im sensitive, a bit too sensitive maybe. Im working on that, pushing myself to get out of my comfort zone in life and seeing where that takes me. Im excited about what the next 6 months will be like, Im hoping to take this charity thing really far, and save as many animals as I can. Helping makes me feel so good. It's so satisfying to share the love.
