POST SHOOT INTERVIEW WITH MODEL KENZIE KERSEN
Damaged / Goods: What led you to originally pursue a career in modeling?
Kenzie Kersen: I didn't grow up wanting to be a model.. people always told me it was something that I should look into but I didn't think twice about it. Especially living in Mississippi where there is basically no modeling industry. But my mother agent scouted me on Instagram and I just went with the flow and ended up enjoying it so now here I am! I don't really know how long my modeling career will last, I'm just taking it day by day and seeing where it takes me.
Damaged: Who would you say is your ultimate fashion inspiration?
Kenzie: I don't really have a specific fashion inspiration.. I'm more inspired by decades. Specifically 70s-90s. I honestly am pretty bad about keeping up with current designers and brands. I do all my shopping and forever 21 and goodwill.
Damaged: Favorite fashion brands?
Kenzie: Like I said I'm not hard to please when it comes to clothing. I don't believe in spending tons of money of material things. It's not hard to have style and fashion sense, it's just about being creative and thinking outside the box. And when you have good style it doesn't matter whether you thrift shop or shop at Chanel, you'll be able to put together something cool regardless.
Damaged: In terms of music, who are your top artists of the moment?
Kenzie:I'm an old hippie soul so that pretty much tells you what kind of music I'm into. I was raised on classic rock so that's my go-to. But I like just about everything. So with that being said, my favorite "artists of the moment" were more relevant in the 70s. Zeppelin, The Beatles, and Tom Petty are a few of my favorites.
Whats your damage?
Kenzie: Honestly I've lived a fairly easy life. I have wonderful parents that have always supported me in everything I do. I've had many opportunities to travel and expand my horizons. I can't complain. But I have struggled with anxiety, which can definitely be considered a damage. I grew up painfully shy so I've always had to force myself into social situations. The most positive way modeling has effected my life was helping me gain the confidence to not be so shy. I love thinking back on how far I've come and how much better my life is when anxiety isn't holding me back. This career that I never imagined I'd be in has opened so many doors for me. I've met lifelong friends and traveled to places I might not have gone to if it weren't for my job. I have overcome so many personal obstacles because of my modeling career. Sometimes the industry can be dark and twisted no doubt but if you come into it with the right mindset you can take in everything as something you can learn and grow from.
