POST SHOOT INTERVIEW WITH TAYLOR CONZELMAN
Damaged / Goods: Hi Taylor, where are you originally from and what brought you to LA?
Taylor Conzelman: I moved here from Phoenix, but I'm originally from Alabama. I moved here because Phoenix sucks! Haha.... There are some fantastic places to thrift there though. Anyway, I guess I have to give the generic answer here and say I moved here for "more opportunity," and because I could not handle another summer of 125+ degree weather.
Damaged: What do you love about living in LA?
Taylor: Honestly I love going to Korea Town more than pretty much anything. I like going to the big mall on Western and Olympic and buying thousands of sheet masks, I like the Korean Spas, I get acupuncture and cupping over there sometimes, and I love Korean BBQ more than anything. I like my neighborhood and my house a lot. I've lived in the same house for four years and my roommates are like family at this point. Obviously, the monthly flea markets are a huge perk of living here.
Damaged: Can you tell us more about your clothing brand Back Bite and the inspiration behind it?
Taylor: We started Backbite almost exactly three years ago and our idea was that we "Wanted to get paid to hang out." There are four of us in total and we're planning on exploding next year, I'm very excited.
Damaged: What albums are you listening to at the moment?
Taylor: I am honestly just mostly listening to a lot of Young Thug right now.
What's your damage?
Taylor: How about a good and bad? The good: I grew up with the most amazing father ever. He taught me my compassion, the importance of giving back to others and to the planet, and my ostentatious sense of style. He passed away two years ago but I am forever grateful to him for helping to shape me into the woman I am.
The bad: Well... this is scandalous but earlier this year, my boyfriend left me for another woman and lied about it- I found out months later. I knew this was going on and asked him repeatedly to just be honest with me about her and he told me I was "being crazy." But honestly, it was the best thing that has ever happened to me. I will never, ever settle for someone who treats me like less than what I deserve. It's so easy today for men to be dismissive, gaslight and to label a woman as "crazy" because society has told us that it's acceptable. It also taught me to treat my intuition with respect.
